Photoshop Elements 12 update. . .
« on: August 17, 2014, 12:49:15 PM »
Hey guys, if anyone is still using Elements 12 and wants to update to the 12.1 revision, do yourselves a favor and just uninstall the original, reinstall and then update from the drop down menu under Help; you'll save yourself a lot of time and grief!  I haven't seen anyone else mention this, and after a frustrating 4 hours last night, I don't know why anyone would do anything else.  On the Elements forum, that was listed as "Option 3"!  wallbash.gif

Sorry to hear you had problems. I'm still using 11 so I haven't had any update requests, apparently, it wuz purfeck from thee start!

Any hints as to what happened? dntknw.gif Maybe a link to the forum threads?

Did you have PSE 12 running when you ran the updater? I would think an update would tell you to quit the app, which you probably did, anyway.

I almost always make an Archive of every app (and often it's plist) before I run an updater (or even install a new version). As long as I've done that, I've never had a problem; the problems always occurred when I didn't follow my own advice! wallbash.gif

There were a couple of problems, Jim, and when I googled the problems, I found a ton of threads, all over the place, about them, and, of course I tried them, to no avail, before finding the simplest, which was to uninstall the program and then reinstall, and run the updater before doing anything.  Man, I tried it with the program running and downloaded the updater, which, as you mentioned, told me to quit the program, but 2 problems, one of which led me to the discovery that part of the program installs part of itself in your startup programs, and if you delete it, it reinstalls itself. . .  wallbash.gif Never had a problem with LightRoom, which is the same company, and this thing just had me gritting my teeth, hence the warning to the rest of you.
