Adding Disk Partition
« on: May 18, 2015, 09:44:45 AM »
I have two 1TB backup drives that I rotate to my SDB.

Each have 4 Partitions:

• HDBU (Snow Leopard backup)
• FilesBU (my data files)
• Sparseimages (where I have the images of the partitions of my op disk) (the one I want to steal from.)
• Spare

I want to add a partition for backing up my new Mavericks OS.  I could use the Spare partition, but would prefer to keep it for odds & ends.

I have plenty of room on the BU disk(s).

The Sparseimage partition is plenty big enough to provide the required space for a MavBU partition.

Can I steal part of that space without destroying the sparseimages in it, or wreaking havoc with the other partitions?

I have both Mavericks and Snow Leopard installed on my op disk.

Thanks,

Jack

Well, make sure your other drive is a recent backup, and then follow the simple directions here:

http://osxdaily.com/2011/04/26/partition-h...drive-mac-os-x/

Should work. Can't say I've ever done it myself, as I rarely/never partition drives these days!

Thanks Paddy,

I followed the instruction in that article.

And checked the sparseimages partition out.

All appears to be in good order, with nothing lost.

Thanks very much.
