A website I found in trying to correct my mail problem (per topic Email - can't send messages) directed me to Server Admin, "To reconstruct the corrupted mail database:
1- In Server Admin, select a computer in the server list, then select mail.
2- Click maintenance, and so on…

The problem with that is I don't know where it's located. One article said it is part of the Lion package and can be found on the install disk. (At least that is what I'm remembering.)

Liz, I think perhaps you strayed into a thread somewhere about OS X SERVER, which could very well be hosting email and needing fixing. But it has nothing to do with what you're experiencing. There is no such thing as "Server admin" in the regular flavours of OS X.

You could of course, rebuild your Mail database, though again - I don't think it would help one whit with your inability to send mail.

Thank you, ever so much. The trouble with mail has gotten worse by the hour it seems. I can't assess preferences because anytime I click anything it freezes. I'll check the other thread again to see if there is anything new I can try before heading to an Apple store. $$$$ wallbash.gif

Liz,

Have you tried cleaning your Mac with an appropriate utility such as OnyX?

That might help.

No, but I am willing to do what it takes. So far in the eight years since purchasing this old friend I've been able to get good advice with every glitch without an Apple store. I'm beginning to wonder if that time has come. I'll see where Onyx gets me.
