The next Mac OS...
« on: June 09, 2015, 10:08:11 AM »
Some interesting info at <TidBITS>, and at <MacIssues>. "<Hidden>" features listed by Mr. Kessler. Also some details on <iOS9>. Looks like Apple may have been listening to complaints about "full-screen takeover" by apps... we'll see.

Also news about something called Apple Music Service. dntknw.gif Meh.

Snow Leopard was my favorite OS. While I'm not complaining about Yosemite, I would welcome El Capitán if it does, indeed, resemble the improvements that SL brought to Leopard. I will probably wait for 10.11.2 before taking the plunge.

Why would I want to eat a worm? I recall something from my high school history class about the Diet Of Worms...  whistling.gif

I still use Snow Leopard the vast majority of the time, even tho I have installed Mavericks.

Mavericks is a lot slower loading.

It also thrashes around doing ??? the first few minutes of running:
Reading/writing a lot of stuff to/from disk.
CPU consumption.  -- mdworker in Root and in my login.

etc. etc. etc.

mdworker is a tool of Spotlight, which I've found to work best when disabled. wink.gif

I'm staying with SL for now.

Among other reasons is the tendency for some apps that run on newer OSs to display tools and text white on black. At my age I cannot read that stuff, that's why I have just purchased Adobe Elements 11. It retains black on white.

In other forums users have made complaints about white on black to developers of "Affinity" "Pixelmator" et al.

I'm beginning to wonder "Is Windows really so bad, especially if you can run stuff that needs no Internet connection?

Is it since Apple put a bean counter at its head that their emphasis is heavily biased towards sales volume and short-term margins (pop music and, IMHO, trivia) while neglecting the (admittedly smaller) base of those who want to achieve something after a day in front of a screen?

I'm currently running Yosemite on one drive and 10.6 on another of the MACPro on my office desktop.  I've got 10.8 on my Macbook Pro and 10.5 (or Linux) on the old G5 Tower at home.  I'm not sure "another"
version of MAC OS is necessary any more than I think Windows needs version 10 except to fix stuff and fixes can be accomplished with less fuss/fuzz than a whole new version.  Sometimes I have to think a minute
about how to do something in the OS I'm typing into, but I'm an IT guy and so far that comes easy even jumping between Windows and MAC OS.  Mainly I only get upset with things when they are "extremely slow" or
nonfunctional.

There is a wonderful comment from "Jen Cluse" on the MacInTouch website June 10, under "Reader Reports, Apple Announcements discussion".

I rest my case.

Sometimes I think I'm in the original Star Wars movie and instead of not being the droids you're looking for I'm not the customer Apple is interested in.  If we don't buy the latest perhaps we shouldn't bother with updatiing.   Apparently I've been thrown out of GSX (the Apple Tech Support Website) because I no longer have an "official" looking enough email address on my iTunes account.  We switched to gmail and they don't seem to like gmail.  This isn't locked out of iTunes; just GSX which uses the same account.

Apple primary customer is no longer in the computer user group. "Computers are so 2000's!" rofl.gif laughhard.gif

Gunug, when you start referring to current trends as "trivia" it's a sure sign of your growing old! eek2.gif Sad to see it in one so young... tears.gif Welcome to the club! salute.gif
