When did it become acceptable to answer a question with "So, blah, blah, blah..." I always thought "So" was used to indicate a continued thought or process, probably in answer to ones own question(s), theoretical or actual. So now it is just a way to start every response to anyone about anything? dntknw.gif

What is the point of the of the first and second word? Are we to congratulate the announcer for having correctly identified the reporter as Clem? Did Clem think he was going to be asked to report on something other than what he was seeing? What is the point of "so"? Was Clem talking about the event before we get the 'live feed' and he is continuing to explain that dialog?

It appears that some people can't start any sentence without using these two words, or at least the second one. At least we are not hearing "ya know?" quite as much. Right, so, I think this is a fad, ya know? rant.gif

Excuse me now as I crawl back under my rock, ya know. Right. So...

I think that "so" has become the new "like" (remember that irritating habit?). Using so at the beginning of phrases has become so common that I find myself using it constantly—and it irritates me that I have picked up this habit.

The news anchors in Portland often begin a news report (and I use news report loosely) this way:

"Listen to this!" "You won't believe this story!" "You'll be stunned at this report!"

I record the news and I've gotten to the point that if they begin a news report that way, I fast-forward through the report. biggrin.gif

My kids would ask at this point: "Now who is the grumpy so-and-so!" Or words to that effect. The head of IT is fond of saying "It is what
it is" in situations like this.  I find that irritating but it is probably as valid as "Que Sera, Sera!"  Devilish2.gif

I have had about 6 18-19 year old interns working for me this past week and they all seem to have "VERY" convoluted thought processes!

Don't get me started...

I know I have a habit of saying "Well..." before explaining something and I'm trying to break that habit.

But my sister says "Y'know" constantly and my nephew uses "like" like it's going out of style. smile.gif

The most popular lead on the tube around here is "You won't believe or You may be surprised... stay tuned." Well, yes (see I did it again), I do believe whatever you are going to show us since it usually isn't all that odd or surprising.

Most of these are just crutches to carry the conversation to the next level (oh, that's another annoying phrase).

And before I forget, please someone strangle the next user of "hashtag".  I keep wanting to yell, "You mean pound sign?"  wallbash.gif
