Combo update to Yosemite?
« on: September 02, 2015, 03:09:17 PM »
Hey guys, I've decided to finally jump to Yosemite, but I really do not want to upgrade to th new iTunes.  I'm running 12.0 and am quite happy with it, so I'm wondering if there is a way to download a "Combo updater" like we used to do, and then specify that iTunes be left out of the upgrade.  If so, can you provide a link for me, or tell me whether there is a way to specify that before I do the upgrade, or is that option available once you click on the "Upgrade" button.  Also, is the "Restore in place" option there, so that I don't have to worry about losing apps & stuff?  (I have already backed up my stuff, and just did my Time Machine backup as well, so I shouldn't lose anything if anything goes wrong.)

As usual,  thanx.gif in advance!

Combo update to Yosemite?

Yosemite is a Software Update download/install. It's not a "Combo" updater for a later, new version of a current (or even a previous) OS.

I would suggest simply making a compressed or renamed copy of the iTunes version you want to use. Might be best is to copy the whole library and the plist in both ~/Library/Preferences/com.app.iTunes.plist and (possibly) /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist. I'm not sure if there are other files hidden somewhere. The point is, you'll have a copy of the old files, library, and plist, even after you make the update. You can then drag the old files into the appropriate folders and the OS should ask/warn you if you about replacing new stuff with old. You'll likely need you computer password to authenticate that you are doing things against the Will of the Mother Ship!

Well, after the . . . what?. . . Year and a half of dithering about whether to make the move or not, I went ahead, Jim, and much to my distress, this morning I had to figure out that I had to trash Aperture 3.5.1 and then go to the app store and hit the "purchased" button to get 3.6 which works with Yosemite. It seems as though Apple is not making things as easy to find as they used to.  I also found that my Intos4 tablet mouse doesn't work the way it's supposed to, even after updating the driver, so I've got a"HELP!"request into Wacom. . .   wallbash.gif  I'm wondering what else I'm going to discover as I move along here.  Ah well, it keeps Life interesting, does it not?
