Can I turn it off?
« on: September 20, 2015, 08:27:30 AM »
I'm not sure what to call it, or what version of MAC OS it began with but I'm getting tired of using to touchpad to move the cursor and having the entire screen zoom-out to show me a choice of windows to click on.  I don't like this feature, it doesn't happen as easily with a real mouse/trackball hooked up and I suppose this is a "gesture" but I don't mind saying it's wasted on me and I wouldn't see myself using such a feature.  It's early so if this "question" isn't worded correctly please ignore it or ask questions!

Understand completely, and have the same reaction....
Will be much interested to find out if anyone has found a 'go round' for this annoying 'feature'... wallbash.gif

Not sure what the problem is. There are always Prefs for 99.9% of the OS. I'd suggest looking at the Trackpad Pref. Sounds like you need to disable at least one of the two-finger controls in the Scroll & Zoom tab. There are only three tabs, and each one explains (with very short vids) what every setting does. I sure hope you guys read the owners manuals for any new car you drive... rolleyes.gif tongue.gif

OTOH, I absolutely hate the trackpad on a laptop! They are simply too small, the "Magic Pad" has spoiled me! I use it much more than the mouse.

Also check under Desktop and Screen Saver prefs.  When you click on the screen saver button there is an additional choice to use the corners  (Hot corners) for various actions. It's a part of the Exposé options that weren't shuffled into the Trackpad prefs that Jim refers to. I use the corners a lot to access the desktop, show apps, etc. since the pad on the 11 MBA is not that big and I have to twist my hand to get all four digits on the pad. Much easier to slide the cursor to the corner.

Me lazy.  smile.gif

Got the little bugger!!!

If you 'double tap' with one finger it will zoom in or out.....  This can be turned on or off in the system preferences under 'mouse'...

Have no idea what you're talking about. Nothing in "Mouse" on my setup concerns the Magic Pad, maybe on my wife's MBP. OTOH, two-figner, double-tapping on the Pad acts exactly the same as it does on my iDevices: Zoom Out/In. rolleyes.gif OTOH, there is a place in Trackpad for setting the "Secondary click", which can be defined in Mouse, I guess... Frankly, I had forgot about zooming with the two-finger, pinch/spread action, thanks for helping me start using that again, it's faster than command-+/- and is 'infinitely' variable. cheer.gif

OT(third)H, there is a spot in Accessibility for Mouse and Trackpad settings. So, if you have stuff in the regular Mouse pref, it seems Apple has fallen, once again, into slapping things where ever the current favorite place might be for any particular day! laughhard.gif

ABD.. No wonder you can't get it to work, you're usin the 'two-fignre' method, not the 2-finger method...
And this is not on a track-pad but on the wireless Apple mouse of some description or another....
I solved mine, now you solve yours......

'Three Finger Drag', which must be a technique for blues guitar, is what is actually doing it and that is not set in Trackpad settings so this is default behavior.  I'll put off checking out the option for 'three fignre' for some later date.  Now that I 'know' what is doing this at random points I'll try to contain my three finger enthusiasm! rolleyes.gif

gunug, is this possibly the "Mission Control" feature? On my laptop, that is the command for MC. You should find the selection in the trackpad settings in system prefs.
