Just got hit with this. sad.gif  Was at a site and a huge window opened up in the background and this little window popped. In case I couldn't read it, the computer read it to me (wasn't that nice?).

[attachment=3205:Screen_S...17__15_2.png]

I had to force quit Safari. Launched Chrome and followed instructions in this post:

https://discussions.apple.com/message/29266222#29266222

EDITED TO STATE:
Safari no longer works properly. I can't post here at TS, can't log in to sites, 1Password doesn't work with it. I'm using Chrome to post here, and the font is different than normal. Not really sure what to do. Would love some help. After a reboot, Safari is now happy again. I also had to turn javascript back on (the apple thread said to turn it off to help stop that intrusive page). Hopefully no left over code anywhere, but if anyone has any info on this, I'd appreciate knowing.

whistling.gif You certainly got my attention I thought I was on the forum at the SCIFI channel; glad things worked out!

I actually couldn't search for a solution for this while using my rMBPro, because I have google search down to totally kid friendly as I often use it while at church and don't want someone to borrow it and ... well, you know.  rolleyes.gif

Sounds like a 'ransom' attack/phish. Whatever you do, never, ever dial an 866 number.

PrivacyStar web and mobile users have looked up, blocked, and filed complaints on phone numbers in the 866 area code 1,140,911, 820,087, and 45,129, time(s) respectively.
If some company you deal with has that area code, you might want to write it down by the phone... more likely, I'd just deal with another company. rolleyes.gif

Only other 'work' I'd suggest would be to contact the site's webmaster, IF you've visited that site before. If you don't get a positive response, there are sites that can add that site to a blacklist.

Your two links seem to be pointing to the same place/thread. "Linc" is a very competent and patient supplier of well detailed and accurate info at those forums. thumbup.gif

Yeah, I knew better than to dial that number. wink.gif

I had never visited the site, but others had. At this point, I can't go back without some more digging as I erased my browser history, cookies, cache, etc.

Yes, both links went to same place. One took you to the thread in general, the other to Linc's answer. I erased the first link and left the one that provides the helpful answer. Good to hear that this person has a good rep at Apple forums.

Notice the 'pyramid' under his name. Don't think they are that easy to fake. wink.gif

Here's some advice and info from those forums, including <how to deal with this sort of thing in iOS>.

Sorry, I don't hang around there ... what does the 'pyramid' under his name signify?

Level 10 forum participant. Means he's given out lots of helpful answers. (Sometimes I find his answers a bit...canned. In that he makes people jump through hoops sometimes when there actually is a really simple solution. However, he's there a lot and does help a lot of people, so can't really carp too much. wink.gif )

I'm a mere Level 1 member on the Apple forums with 85 points. I don't spend a lot of time there - it's a rabbit hole. You could end up spending your entire day there if you start answering questions. wink.gif
