SOLVED: Turn off message read for texts
« on: November 18, 2015, 12:57:02 PM »
EDITED to show solution: http://forums.imore.com/guides-how-article...s-imessage.html

I sometimes am busy working a project on my iMac and don't have time to respond right away, and would prefer that the sender not realize I've read the text message. Is there a way to turn this off?

SOLVED: Turn off message read for texts

I'm probably wrong, but I know when I send a text to Judy, it shows as "delivered" almost immediately, even when I know she is not using her iPhone at that time... or, maybe she is. Maybe this is only with the iDevices, I can't remember the last time I used Messages on the iMac. Or maybe I need to learn more about it! blush-anim-cl.gif

Exactly what is the indication that the sender gets that indicates that a message has been read? dntknw.gif

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
CAUTION! Childhood vaccinations cause adults!

It shows "Read 8:50AM" (or whatever time it was read).

I found the solution:

As I said, I use the iOS version 99.9% of the time. I've never seen anything like that there.

wallbash.gif OK, I just looked at my Settings->Messages and see I have "Send Read Receipts" turned off. Can't seem to open that link you provided, maybe that's what it refers to? dntknw.gif

Yes, you have your iPhone (guessing that's what you're using) set for ultimate privacy with texts.  thumbup.gif

The page shows how to set both iOS and iMac to not send receipts. I now have both set for sneak reading. har har
