Help! Boy Am I In Trouble Now!!!
« on: July 23, 2003, 09:03:25 PM »
Earlier I posted problems with copying my HD to a second drive for backup.  Everyone was very helpdul, and I decided to take some advice and use CCC.  I tried to wpe and repartition the second drive and got a message that it would not unmount because it was in use.  I tried trashing the Applications folder, the Library and the System, and I still have two items which are problematic- 1) message that the item "icon" is locked   2) SystemUIServer is in use.  How do I get this drive wiped??????? wallbash.gif  wallbash.gif  wallbash.gif

Kelly, you're a lifesaver - now you need to find the answer to this one.  There is a folder in the trash, yellow with a picture of a plug on it, called, aptly, "plugins".  There is nothing in the folder, but when I try to empty the trash, the same thing which happened before happens again - message says that the item "icon" is locked and can not be thrown away.  Pressing the shift and option keys have no effect.  How do I get rid of this folder?  There is no info on it in the "get info" window, and renaming it does no good either. mad.gif

dakota:

You ran into that problem because the computer cannot have two identical accounts running at the same time. However, it would have work if you put it on its own disk, not a partition.  Anyway see my other post for image backup solution.  To erase that folder simply boot into OS9 and trash it, but first take it out of the trash before you reboot.

For your edification - and future use - there are many sgareware/freeware  applications that will "force delete" the trash.  A good place to start is "BatchMod" as it i sthe simplest. My suggestion is to use  "Onyx"

-- but first take it out of the trash before you reboot --
That was the problem I had a little while ago. After a few tries, started from scratch and yanked it out of the dumpster first. <gr>
