I've noticed that the time between the monitor lighting up and the smilly-face floppy icon went from six seconds to around sixteen seconds upon restarts. So I tried booting with the start-up disk in the control panel. Being sure the system folder is the one selected. It won't boot this way. All I get is a lit screen, no smilly-face, nothing. This forces me to use the Panic button on the CPU in order to get up and running again. I hope you good people here at TS can give me some pointers as to what the culprit may be. Buck. Is your system inside your system folder blessed?

Buck An oldie but a goodie is RHP's weekly maintenance. I add Startup Disk preference file to the "trash list". It'll clear up a lot of problems. You'll have to reset some items (like the startup disk), but it's worth it!

In Control Panels>Start Up Disk make sure "network" is not selected.

You might try Zapping the PRAM.

Could be corrupt.

Bill: My system folder looks like the folder in the top of the pic that you posted. It does not have the carring handle.

And Kelly: Zaping the PRAM didn't do it.

It's your system suitcase.

Can you describe exactly what is shown when you open the control panels -startup disk folder?

Buck Just this past week I had some minor problems, nothing major, just those "niggley" types. I reinstalled the 9.1 update and the problems went away. Well....all except one, but I'm working on it.

Not a complete reinstall, nor a clean install, nothing that fancy, of the entire OS, just the update, in situ. Took about 15 minutes.
