Clean up Keychain?
« on: November 20, 2016, 09:42:01 AM »
Does anyone have an idea if or how one can cleanup one's Keychain? Mine is so full of clutter, I'm not sure of what's any good or not... I do have a good idea of what not to touch but there's stuff from ages ago and so forth.

Thanks,
Dreambird

Applications->Utilities->Keychain Access.app and have at it. Carefully, of course. wink.gif

I know what you mean. I've been transferring the keychains on and on for years and some stuff goes way back.

I've found it easiest to use the search feature in the keychain window to find entries for a particular site or key word and then if there is more than one entry, check the modification dates. Usually the most recent is the password info that will work, but go to the site and double check. If it works, chances are all the others in the keychain for that site are no good and can be dumped.

Yes, that can be very time consuming, so just do a few at a time. Otherwise, just leave everything since they surely don't take up much space.  smile.gif

Get 1Password and forget about Apples crippled, little supported password "manager". It's not free, but it can do so much more and is usable in all widely used browsers while being available at any time in any other app (similar to URLM Pro). It can also be used to store so much personal, private info securely. It automatically updates password when/if you change them, records that date/time thus foregoing the confusing and unnecessary duplications. rolleyes.gif

I even use it now instead of URLM Pro when I know the site is going to require a password. Simply type a few letters of the site (or its label that you create) and press return. 1PW then opens a browser, if needed, and loads the url into it, and pastes in the needed info. Done.

Keychain reminds me of many Apple apps that provide the basic needs at the time but are never developed when they become surpassed by third-party devs. And then there is iTunes which seems to find new and un-intuiitive uses every year while doing more with less ease-of-use. rolleyes.gif

Am I a complainer or what?! wallbash.gif AT least there are still devs who see, understand how apps should make things easier, not just pretty.
