Mystery Restart?

Yesterday I put the computer on sleep mode and opened it this morning for a skype call and it then restarted itself.

Since I don't tend to turn off - do you think that this causes problems?

I work on the Mac sometimes many hours a day, but not all days.

Larry, you don't say whether this is a desktop or a laptop. My Macbook was entirely unable to sleep properly, choosing to lock up; until I reset the SMC:

I did have a problem with my MacPro under 10.9 I think but I just choose to turn it off at night instead of having it sleep!

!. Do you have anything set up as a 'schedule' in your "Energy Saver" System Pref?

2. Might I ask how you know the Mac restarted? I assume it's because you had to sign in? Or was it simply that any previously opened apps were closed?

3. Have you ever used "Console"? It's in your Utilities folder.

Not sure which OS you're using (it would be great if you would update the info that appears under your name/avatar when you post here). Apple dumbed down the app in macOS 10.12 Sierra, but you should still be able to find "crash" reports.
