the blizzard of 2017

Best wishes to all TSers who are in the path of Stella, a really potent nor'easter that is hitting the east coast. As I look out my window, I see blizzard conditions and a whiteout so bad that I can barely see to the top of my driveway, some 50 feet away. I saw a neighbor go to work and I definitely don't envy her. We're expecting up to two feet of snow. I filled the gas tank of my snow thrower yesterday so I'm prepared, but probably won't use it until tomorrow, since the storm is expected to last into the evening. The stray cat that we care for is showing some intelligence; he's comfortably warm in the garage with plenty of food. No fool, he.

This is very depressing!

Seriously, I'm thinking of all those negatively affected by so much snow this year. It's hard to convince many "deniers" about climate change when they see these kinds of weather events. Too many folks know understand the difference between those two words.

Worst problems are the power lines that will get broken. Hope there's no a lot of ice accompanying the snow and wind!

We had a bit of snow late Saturday night, all gone by Noon. Still appropriate Winter temps right now with possible flurries over night. But Sunny tomorrow. Probably lots of kids frustrated; this is the public school's "Spring" break, but there's not enough snow for playing in!

My best thoughts to all in Stella's path. Out here, we are enjoying   record setting rainfall. Trees falling, hills sliding, roads flooded that don't normally flood; add in the wind and I had a fun drive up north and back again yesterday. Today I was smarter and stayed close to home. Soon enough "summer" will be here and we'll all be complaining about the heat. What is it that famous author, Anonymous, said:

I am out of harm's way, visiting my brother, et al in Tucson.

Altho I think NE Ohio escaped the storm.

But, is it ever gorgeous here - temps in the upper 80's, sunshine, and absolutely gorgeous.

Still cold and wintry in Akron.

My best to whoever is being affected by the storm.

Sure don't like piles if snow.

Nice temps in Tucson, but it's winter there. Remember that the first words of a baby born in Tucson are, "But it's a dry heat."

My best friend and her hubby "winter" in that area. She not only reminds me it's a dry heat, but then sends pics of the rattlesnakes she's killed when they got into the sun room. Add in all the snakes that like to hide at the golf course they both enjoy and I rethought the idea of wintering there. I'd rather have my rain. Speaking of which, my local weather guy just posted these stats:

Past 24 Hours High/Low/Gust/Rain: 54F/52F/35mph/2.70”

So far in March 2017: 8.52”

Normal for all of March: 7.74”

So far this year: 33.31”

Normal for entire year: 60-70”

So we're over 'normal' rainfall for March with more on it's way (it's pouring right now); and we're at the halfway mark for the entire year! No wonder everything is flooding and slip-sliding away.  I'm always impressed when I see the local fishing boats out on the ocean, bobbing and disappearing in the waves, trying to haul in a good day's catch for all of us to eat.  

Stay safe folks. I'll wear my rain coat when I head out later today, but I'll still wind up wet.

Well, you'll be depressed to learn that temps here were in the mid-60s today, the sun was shining, the air was clear and we could see for miles and miles (or kms if that's your thing), lush green fields with sheep and their lambs and lines of daffodils and crocuses in the grass in villages. (Strange when you consider we are almost on the same latitude as Saskatoon in Canada).

At the same time we've been warned that by Saturday we should be getting the tail end of Stella, though it may veer north and just hit Shetland (sorry Frances),

In fact one of our TV forecasters on Monday, giving his preview of the week, told us he had looked at Saturday's and (while almost falling about laughingl) told us he couldn't bring himself to tell us how bad it would be. So what IS he paid for?

Being serious, we do appreciate what you folks are going through, and our thoughts are with you. Hopefully spring will be with you very soon.
