New Options for Photo Editing
« on: October 23, 2018, 11:50:26 AM »
Many folks are dissatisfied with Adobe's subscription requirements. Some have looked at ON1 but didn't want to lose all their edits done in Lightroom. ON1 Photo RAW 2019 will have a solution for that problem. They have added an AI section that can bring over all the Collection, meta data and even the non-destructive edits you've made in Lightroom. The two apps use different techniques of course, each one is patented, but the new AI algorithms convert what LR did and converts them to what ON1 would do. The end result is a virtual duplication of settings in ON1 that look identical to what you would see in LR. All the edits are still non-destructive, all the images are untouched, no files are moved or duplicated, so storage space is only marginally increased.

This page will demonstrate the new capabilities to convert your LR work to ON1 how Layers are now much more easily used and the new Text tool in this new version. Just click on any of the icons/topics that have a "View Now »" link.

I use ON1 but not because I really need it!

Preordered the upgrade in September when there was a $30 off special. :D Can't wait to try it out.

Also bought Affinity Photo the other day - haven't really had time to play yet.

I have been using Affinity Publisher, which is looking like a very capable replacement for InDesign, even in beta.

It's all part of the dump-Adobe plan. :D Next up: replace Acrobat - probably with PDF Pen Pro. Acrobat (the last version that came with CS6) looks HORRIBLE on my retina screens - as does InDesign. (blurry) So Affinity Publisher was amazing to use - I hadn't realized just how bad InDesign looked. Unfortunately, I have a big annual project coming up that is a little too big to trust to something still in beta, so I will probably have to do it in InDesign for one last year.

My only other concern is all the plugins I've got for PS/LR...particularly the Nik Collection - which DSO has now taken over. They've released a new version (which from everything I've read, has no new features - yet) and it works with PS and Lightroom, but it only works with the Windows version of Affinity Photo. Why? Who knows. Meanwhile, the old Mac version - which I own - still works with Affinity Photo, though I haven't installed it yet and do see someone complaining about crashes on the Affinity forums. I don't know if there are plans for a Mac version that works with Affinity - I assume that it's up to Affinity to make it work (?), since as far as I know, there is no version of the plugin set specifically for Affinity on the Windows side - it's just that the plugin for PS/LR works in Affinity too.

We shall see...
