1. I'm assuming you are talking about a USB 'hub'?
2. The brand (model number?) of both the hub and the printer would be good info.
3. Is this a powered hub? Does it have an AC/wall receptacle adaptor?
4. Have you tested the cable to be sure it is good?

Is there a reason you can't leave it plugged in?
Are there other devices you can plug into that hub to free up one port on the computer?

How many USB ports do you have on the computer?

I never recommend non-powered USB hubs because they have to split the power between all the devices plugged in to it and they usually end up without enough power for everything. USB is basically power limited (5 volts, 2.5 amps?) anyway. Using a powered hub eliminates that problem.

I use a Tripplite USB hub. You can see the choices at this Tripplite page. Mine is the 7-Port USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Hub with USB Charging. If you read the fine print, you'll see that it plugs into an AC power source. It may be overkill for your needs, but a different one may suit you. Search the web for good prices. I had had a Belkin, but it failed on me. The Tripplite has been completely reliable.
