I still use an older HP Officejet 6110 that I was using to scan a number of pages and it went crazy and started banging the scan head. It tried this for awhile and then flashed a message about turning it off and then on. Each time I turned it back in it did the crazy head banging then and then failed.
I called a friend who fixed his printer problem by unplugging the power block from the computer and the wall outlet and waiting 30 seconds or more. Surprisingly this fixed it! Worth a shot if you have and older HP Deskjet type unit!
