Internal modem replacement
« on: August 04, 2003, 09:39:53 AM »
I am wanting to replace the internal modem in my PowerMac 800 Quicksilver.  I dropped open the side panel of the computer and followed a black wire from the computers phone jack which lead to what must be the modem.  There is a plastic sleeve around it which has Hongkong Telecom printed on it.

Anyway,  where is a good place to buy a replacement.

Hi Ryan. Haven't found one yet. smile.gif

Found one for a Yikes and B&W.

Instructions can be found here.

Are you sure it's a Hardware issue?

There were some OS problems.

Thanks for the links and the quick response kelly!  Your instructions link tells me I have done the correct thing in removing the internal modem.

I found a link using Google, which is identicle to the modem in my computer, but says it is used in the 733's and does not mention the 800 or higher.  You can click on modem image for an enlarged picture.  It is identicle to what I have.

I don't think it is an OS issue but could be wrong.  I have connected to the internet using the internal modem since buying the computer one and a half years ago.  It has worked fine until a recent thunder storm which seemed to of cooked it.  I have an earlier post stating this.

Thunderstorm. Yeah. Probably not an OS issue. smile.gif

Any chance you could take it somewhere to be checked.

That's a lot of money on a maybe. smile.gif
