SOLVED -- Java: keep or delete
« on: April 27, 2019, 06:36:36 PM »
Java keeps pestering me about an update, so I finally launched Systems Preferences > Java and told it to update. This (attachment) was the result, and my question is should I delete it or keep it and upate it?

Running High Sierra 10.13.6

If you have no apps that use or are built with Java, I'd delete it. You can always get the latest version should you ever need it. Java had many security problems, most have been fixed. It is mainly used by corporations/large companies to build in-house apps that don't face the web. I think Apple used to install it back in the pre or very early OS X daze (2 lazy 2 chec).

Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

If you still run Adobe Creative Suite 6 or earlier (which many of us who refuse to pay the monthly Adobe tax still do) you DO need Java 6. And you must keep it up to date - because the only work being done on that version these days is security patching. There are a number of Java apps for Mac still floating around - JAlbum is one I have. So, depending on your situation, you could need more than one version of Java - or none at all.

Interesting. I run CS6, and it is running fine without Java. Apparently none of the apps that I run use Java.  :dntknw:
