Attention Gardeners!
« on: June 10, 2020, 10:45:43 AM »
What's the best (easiest) way to keep chipmunks (ground squirrels) from digging in large flower pots? :wallbash: This one is convinced he buried something in one pot! There's almost enough soil on the patio beside the pot to plant something! I dusted the hole he dug (and the new soil I added) and the surrounding soil with pepper this morning. I'm hoping he doesn't leave a note saying he'd like a bit of salt, too!! :p

I've tried every "home" remedy, and despite all the claims that this really works, none of them worked.  :no2:  So I resorted to Repels All (link below), and it works for the most part. Some critters are still trying to dig, but hey, the rats ate the poison in the garage thinking it was good stuff.  :dntknw:

Another thing that has helped is before I plant (and it might be worth it at this point if they continue to destroy your planters), I lay down chicken wire. Here's a short video explaining how it works.

Good luck! Squirrels and chipmunks are tenacious.

I do have a bird feeder that has kept squirrels out of it. I bought an extra wide, clear 'roof' that keeps rain off the perch. It has an adjustable spring that allows the human to limit the size (weight) of allowable birds. I think that extra wide 'roof' also makes it just about impossible for a squirrel to access the feed from above. Just don't mount the feeder on a post/pole. :nono:

If the pepper doesn't work, I may bury some of my cooking! Not even "mikey" will eat that!! :getsick:

I wonder if you can get tiny little electric fencing...
