Apple Magic Mouse 2
« on: October 30, 2020, 02:09:07 PM »
I am semi-seriously considering the purchase of an Apple Magic Mouse 2. I have read many positive reviews and some negative ones. Are there any comments about it from users? Also, can the lightning to USB cable that comes with it be plugged into a standard USB port on my computer (for charging) or does it require a charging USB port on my powered Tripplite hub?

I found the Magic mice too small for my hand (did not try it with my feet, however). I never thought of letting SWMBO try it, she still uses the old tiny ball but lint-eating wired Apple mouse on her MBP. She doesn't like the track pad on the keyboard.  I switched to a Magic Track Pad quite some time ago and love it!!!

I love mine. And yes - it plugs into any regular USB port for charging. The one downside of the whole charging thing is that it charges through a port on the bottom - so you can't exactly USE it while it's charging. That wasn't a very good design decision in my books, but oh well. I have an old Logitech wireless mouse which I use occasionally (when I've ignored the warnings to charge the Magic Mouse) and am always very happy to switch back when the Magic Mouse is charged.

I have small hands - so it's great for me.

I like the wired Apple mouse and so does my better half. She is generally averse to trying anything new vis-à-vis a computer so I had best be very sure before foisting the Magic Mouse on her. If it weren't for the "lint-eating" issue, I wouldn't even consider a change. On a lark, I bought a very cheap (about $8) Logitech mouse and found that it reflects the price.

Probably, it would be best to go to an Apple store and try one. My sole experience (and this was with the original Magic Mouse) was in an Apple store and it was positive.

How long does it hold a charge? How long does it take to recharge? And, does it make a difference if you switch it off when not in use (which seems like a PITA to me)?

Seems to hold a charge for weeks. I'm on the computer long hours every day, too. And the recharge? No idea - I just plug it in and walk away. ;) Actually - just looked it up. Two hours. And the charge lasts for up to a month, which is probably close to what I get. It's certainly not like an iPhone or an Apple watch, wanting to be plugged in all the time.

The Logitech mouse I have wasn't a really cheap one - but it seems to dislike my desk and is very erratic at the moment. Either that or it's got a hair in it that I can't find...which is entirely possible. No such problems with the Apple mouse.

Thanks for the update, Paddy. It sounds very doable. Now, I have to convince SWMBO...  :dntknw:
