Well, of course, there is a 4th alternative - switch to Crocweb and find things actually do work there, maybe? ;) If they worked on Hostgator, it sounds more like some oddity in the configuration at NC. They do answer pre-sales questions at CW - not sure if they'd be able to tell you anything or not until you install the site and so on, but they also have 60-day money back guarantee, so you can definitely give it a whirl and not be locked into anything. BTW - if you use the coupon "HOSTME" you get 40% off the first bill (I usually sign up for 3 years - that's a tidy little discount - of course, I have to use a different email address every time... :p )

I remember that coupon from when TS transferred to them.

I dug into one CCC backup that I haven't updated since before the host transfer. I was looking for the FTP url that I was using when at Hostgator: ftp://mailscamalert.com/public_html/mid-southweather.com/ That's actually what I tried when I switched to Namecheap. It doesn't work now, however. The biggest difference is that Namecheap considers mid-southweather.com an "Add on domain" while Hostgator called it a "sub domain". Namecheap then says I also have a "sub domain": mid-southweather.mailscamalert.com" with a root of "public_html/mid-southweather.com". Yet, they show mailscamalert.com as my "Main" domain. I thought the path shown as "ftp://mailscamalert.com/public_html/mid-southweather.com" was/is actually the path used to get to my mid-southweather.com files, at least at Hostgator. Namecheap's file list is much different! later...

I'm waiting on the next reply from Namecheap. They seem to always take about 18 hours... :whistling:

Actually only took about 10 hours. :WOW:

I'm writing the app's dev right now. I'd like to let him see if he can get his app to connect. I don't even care if he uses my own username and password! However, I do have one FTP account that has non-cPanel user name & password... He has a real job (and family) so I don't expect a reply before tomorrow at the earliest.

Just to create a few more variables: :diablo:
  • 1. Installed the 1 TB SSD in the mini. Did a clean install of Mojave 14.6.
  • 2. I will update the WeatherCat app when that drive becomes available.
  • 3. Discussed setting up a CrocWeb account. I plan on manually installing the mid-southweather.com files only. I'm really not interested in keeping the mailscamalert site going. The only messages I get are from people wanting to contact the SCAMmers because they've lost the 'spiritual' trinkets, tarot cards or SPAM. They seldom mention actually reading the pages and warnings on the pages.

Just signed up with CrocWeb. Asked if "HOSTME" was still usable. Here is their reply:

You may use coupon code “CROCWEB2020” for a 60% discount.

I asked if I could use both discounts. No response yet. :dntknw:

Had a 'nice' web-chat with Namecheap "Hosting Support" this morning. "We" finally determined that cPanel access had been blocked. Probably by my so many failed FTP requests by me, directly, and by WeatherCat also. :wallbash:

At least the web-chat function is much faster than email... :coolio:

Like...never?

When are you guys going to get with the program and stop using miles, pounds and inches?

DARN...didn't know about the current 60% off deal - they run that occasionally. I just moved someone a couple of days ago. Oh well. And no, you can't combine the two discounts, Jim.  :no2: It's either/or. I do have a couple more to move - so will use that nice discount for those!

That may be a temporary discount for 'furinnerz'! :dntknw: Or, maybe they are just trying to ease the pain for 'Merikinz. :laughhard:

I uploaded all the files (I hope) and changed the nam servers at Namecheap to the CrocWeb machines. I may know tomorrow how bad I messed things up... Gotta go, "Supper is served!" :yum:

Looks like the DNS propagation has completed. Now I need to correct all the links in the html files because it had been running with a slightly different directory setup in Hostgator and Namecheap. The site is now at the public_html root as opposed to being a sub-domain at the other two hosts. I just need to be careful to swap most "./" url's to "/" and some "/" to just remove the it (files now at the same level as the html).

Once that is done, I'll work on the FTP part...

I think we're back in business with my weather web site. Spent at least an hour with CrocWeb via TeamViewer connection. They could get a better view of where files were and eventually got WeatherCat.app to accept the new user name, password for a separate FTP account they had already set up.

I can't praise their skills, patience, perseverance enough! If you want a host that will willingly help you no matter what kind of stupid things you may have done or ask, CrocWeb is the one to go to!! BTW, I even asked them if they were in any way related to Hostgator since they have similar logo animals. They said they not related and that their animal is an Crocodile while that other company uses an Aligator! :coolio: :notworthy: The two companies are also different in a number of important ways!!!

I think a major part of the problem is on my end where I have two pretty much identical boot drives. Some of the html files that app uses are in the ~/Library/Application Support/special directory. Everything that needs to be FTP uploaded goes into that special directory. My problem is that I was editing the files in the wrong boot drive! :wallbash: :blush-anim-cl:

Fortunately, I did have the two drives named differently, the OS probably wouldn't allow identical names, anyway. :dntknw: But I was not paying close enough attention to where stuff is or where I was in which file system! :whoosh: Eight out of the nine base pages are working. I'll figure out the problem with the last one be fore the End-O-the-Yeer! :laughhard:

So glad to hear that it all worked out, Jim! Crocweb truly are the best host I've ever worked with. I did just secure hosting for the Newcastle Historical Society there, and got the 60% discount. :) Need to move it off my own hosting...things were getting a bit "crowded" - plus I don't really like having multiple sites on one hosting account.
