Remote access
«

How do I connect remotely to my uncle's (George on Techsurvivors) computer for free. His eyesight is now failing and he needs my assistance. Apple is now asking 90 EUR for their remote access app.
We are both using Catalina.

app:
This page
is a bit dated but I do see the menu options in
Messenger
on my Catalina iMac.
Screen Sharing
: This is just
a bit more complicated
but is what I do when connecting to my mini and my wife's MBP.
TeamViewer
: You can freely use
TeamViewer
for this kind of operation. (Free For Private, Non-Commercial Use) I have used this to let tech support see/use my iMac while I watched.
All of these methods will probably involve a phone conversation to get the info you both may need to set up your personal machine. One item you may need is the IP address of your uncle's machine. He can see that in his System Prefs->Network. He can also use a web site like
IP Location.net
,
What's My IP Address.com
or
What is my IP.com
.
Good luck, please let us know if you need any more help!

Gordon - I can't add to Jim's info, but it might be worth contacting the RNIB, which may be able to help practically or financially.
The RNIB (Royal National Institute for Blind People) has a huge website, so probably best to go to their FAQ section where you can put in your query. Link:
https://www.sightadvicefaq.org.uk/contact-us
Their
technology section
has info that might give you some leads if you still need them.

Chicken of the VNC:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/
is one option.
Another is Chrome Remote Desktop.
https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/1649523?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en
Both are free.
