Kindle conundrum
« on: December 01, 2020, 07:27:18 PM »
Problem:  Need to load Kindle app onto 4thGen Ipad ios 10.3.

Situation:  Recently upgraded from the aforementioned iPad to a new iPad ios 14.2.  The aforementioned iPad was backed up to iTunes and reset to factory specs (ios 10.3.9) in preparation  to donate it.

Well turns out the donation ended up to my very senior BIL, who currently has an older model Kindle account and device, and was looking forward to the improvement of the iPad. No problem RIGHT????

Problem: The Kindle app from the app store requires ios 12 or later.  If there is a means to get a Kindle app that will work on ios 10.3 it has so far escaped my efforts to run it down.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Have you searched for “older versions of kindle app”?

Conundrum resolved>

Using MY apple id on the BIL's new (my old 4th gen iPad ) navigated to the "purchased apps"  and found the original Kindle app. Downloaded it from the cloud and WA-LA. He now has his Kindle library and account on the iPad.

He'll need to use your Apple ID to update any App Store apps you bought still on that machine, even when/if he gets his own ID. Once he has his own ID he can then buy new apps without you being charged for them. I suspect you are going to have a small can-of-worms for a while... :coolio:

Well the good news is: One of the first things we did was to create him an apple id.  It was with this id the original attempt to download the Kindle app failed due to it's requirement of  IOS 12. I think the worm can has been avoided. :whew:

Sorry, but the “worm” is the Apple ID or your Apple password, to be more specific.

If there are still apps on the computer that are connected to your ID, he will not be able to update them with his ID. You can change your ID Password, but you can’t, AFAIK, change your ID. If/when he tries to update anything that you ‘purchased’, he will be asked for your Apple info. The only ‘clue’ will be that your Apple ID (email address) will be in the dialog awaiting your password. At which point, the ‘worm’ re-appears.

As the worm turns.  All true.  Howsumever  when I wiped the iPad it's next destination  was unknown. When the BIL raised his hand the ONLY app he wanted was Kindle. He does not have a clue what apps are connected with my id, nor will he ever. Should he decide (very doubtful) to acquire ANY app he will have to use his own id and password. I feel confident the worm will stay in its hole forever.

Wiping the drive was wise. Hopefully he won’t be asked to update the Kindle app before he gets his own machine.
