AVG anyone?
« on: January 26, 2021, 12:56:07 PM »
The most recent issue of Consumer Reports recommends AVG AntiVirus in the free version. I downloaded and installed it and ran a scan (which, BTW, found no issues). That link shows the paid options. Does anyone have any experience with this software?

For the record, I also have VirusBarrier Scanner, which I downloaded from App Store. I rarely use it.

Comments?

Only AV app I use is ClamXav, it scans on booting. I think the answer to the need for AV software is in your parenthesized comment. Too many of these apps do not much more than slow down your system and/or waste cpu cycles.

The key to avoiding the very few Mac virus' is never downloading anything from most "Free software" sites. A second important behavior (to mix metaphors) is to never ever click a link in an email until you have verified it is trustworthy.

I, too, use ClamXav. Only rarely does it find anything amiss. When it does, it goes into quarantine and then I dump it without further adieu.

Additionally, I never open any email that Gmail has automatically sent to my spam folder.
