Some Important Details on Backups with CCC
« on: May 27, 2021, 06:23:20 PM »
A recent Mike Bombich blog has some very important information about what has happened (and what will) with our backup practices. Big Sur macOS 11 brought many changes to our favorite OS. Unfortunately, it also broke many of our previous procedures. That's one reason I have yet to update from Catalina macOS 10.15.

Beyond Bootable Backups is important reading for anyone who wants to be able to restore personal files, apps and OS functions after a computer crash. It is even more important if you intend to buy the new M1 hardware powered Macs! Here is a fact (confirmed by Mr. Bombich from talks with Apple): you can't boot an Apple Silicon Mac [M1] if the internal storage has died. :WOW:

Please read the linked blog and understand how Apple's plans may force us to re-examine what and how we make backups in the future.
