I DO hope you find a recent version of that history file.
However, I still highly recommend
URLMPro as a replacement for most browser's history and/or bookmarking functions. It automatically keeps a list of the last 1,000 visited sites. That list has three columns: Name of page (if specified with a <title> entry, URL and Date. I have no idea what or what Firefox or any other browser keeps in its 'history' file. I often use the "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" item in Safari (which also reopens all tabs, of course).
The whole point of URLMP, of course, is to easily save and arrange URL's in the way the user wants, not limited to what the dev(s) might like. The nice thing about URLMP is that it is available via the dev's site and the App Store so it can be updated automatically, if you like. It is updated quite often and has an active user base which the dev works hard to satisfy! Naturally, it automatically updates itself every time you save a bookmark, so there is no need to use Time Machine because of any "accidents".
