Thunderbird won't work in Gmail anymore

So as I recall, there may not be very many users of Thunderbird here at TS, but I thought I'd report on an issue I am presently experiencing. Ever since Gmail and Google went to two-factor identification, Thunderbird won't accept the password any more. I've checked all my settings and everything seems to be in order. In the meanwhile, I've set up Apple Mail to handle my Gmail account and it's working fine.

Any bright ideas? Running Catalina 10.15.7 on a 2020 MBP.

Nothing very recent in my light searching of the web. But some have suggested clearing out any old passwords that may be 'confusing' the app. Some suggested creating a new account using a new password. Have you tried "re-verify your client/device to Google"? Lastly, if you have more than one app that uses a Google password, you might try closing all those before attempting to sign in to Thunderbird. There is a support page with this same question, but it suggests using a better app(?), updating your OS(?) or creating an app specific pw for a NON google app(?). None of those conditions seem relevant for you! Their last-ditch process is:

• On your device’s browser, go to https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha.
• Enter your username and password, then enter the letters on the screen.
• Go back to the app and try signing in again.

Of course, there's always the Contact Support (Mozilla/Google/TB/etc.) process.

I assume you have the latest version of all these apps/services?

I further assume(!) you are using a password manager that inserts the pw for you.
