iMac FP memory
« on: February 25, 2003, 10:45:00 PM »
I had the opportunity to watch an Apple tech upgrade the -inner- ram stick on a new iMac FP for a customer.

At first I thought it was going to be a walk in the park exchange. Wrong!

Just unscrew the screws on the bottom of the base and slide the whole guts out about two inches only so one can get to the dimm. Pull out the existing ram stick. That part looked easy.
Replacing it with the new 512 stick was a little tricky because he 'had' to reach in with his left arm around the base for guidance alone. Not to easy with the two inches or so.

The real kicker was to reseal the base!
After all,the whole shooten shebang is right there at the bottom.
He needed to reseal some wires back in place before even thinking about resealing the base before putting the base screws back in.

The whole procedure probably took about thirty minutes or less.

Considering a 512 ram stick is the most (I believe) you can put in that -inner- dimm slot, the time involved isn't really that bad. But still ...
Just downed on me. Wonder if one can test the new stick before putting it all back together again?
I know the tech put the new stick in a machine on the bench before hand to see but what about if it was seated correctly in the new iMac FP??

The customer bought the iMac FP,HP printer and external speakers.
All for his wife.
