Sounds like the problem is with Mozilla. I've never heard of any other developer having a problem like this. Just because you want to have "simple" version numbers doesn't mean everyone else has to change. If you want your app to run on the web, you have to meet the standards set by the W3C. There are lots of new CSS effects/controls/etc. that many browsers are not yet capable of using. That's likely the same with javascript and other scripting languages. If the browser can't run on the WWW, you must decide if you want to stick with your differences or let the rest of the world use your browser. You may not like it but that's the way things work right now.

Most web users have no idea what version of any app they are using. Heck, many don't even understand that the app needs/uses the web! Most couldn't care less about what the version number is. But if Mozilla "breaks" my app, I'll simply find another way to run the app(s) I want to use. So long FireFox/Mozilla.

Sounds like the problem is with Mozilla.

No, Chrome is currently at Version 98.0.4758.102, and is the most used browser with 77% of the market. Next competitor is Safari @ 7+%, and it goes from there. So this could be a huge deal a lot of web users.

Oh, I agree with that. I think that's kinda the point of the title. But you can bet that news of this problem will be quickly to spread when Web app developers start notifying their users to switch to a browser that "just works". And I don't mean just Safari. There are many good browsers around and web app developers will not delay their users from using those apps for long. That costs developers money, which is often said to "speak loudly"!

There are already standards and if you want folks to use your browser (which is not where the money is), you'd better make sure it uses those standards. Immediately, transparently and easily.

I suspect Mozilla will find and implement a solution quickly. If the web can't handle version number over 99, then just start over at 1 or 10 or (wait for it...) the two digit decade!
