My experience with cordless optical mice was....they EAT batteries. If you have stock in Duracell, this might be ok. I tried a Logitech cordless optical mouse and found myself feeding it two AA's every 2-3 weeks. This gets old, very quickly. Also, it did NOT like rechargeable batteries at all.
There is at least one newer one that sits in recharging cradle when not in use - that seems a little more sensible.
My favorite meece are the M$ optical ones - 5 button Intellimouse Explorer on my G4, slightly cheaper 3 button optical one on my PeeCee. I've bought a number of them for family and friends too - they also seem to like them. One caveat - the newer Intellimouse Explorer is only for righties - if you're a leftie, go with the cheaper three button optical mouse. (generally about $19, though sometimes as cheap as $10 on sale) On my TiBook I have the Kensington PocketPro optical. It's very nice too - and has a handy self-storing cord.
Optical mice are great - and I would never go back to using a mouse without a scroll wheel. Still can't understand why Apple mice don't have them!!!
As for keyboards - haven't tried any wireless ones, but the wired one I like is the new(er) full-size Apple one. I splurged and replaced the original one that came with my G4 Sawtooth (it had black keys and the letters had rubbed off in places...) with a new white one and like it a lot. It also has some nice things that Apple keyboards never had before - like a forward delete key. If you can, go to a big box type store and try a couple of different ones. Each brand of keyboard has its own "feel" and some people are very particular about it. And then there is the issue of ergonomics - some people like the split/ergonomically shaped jobs. I don't - I find myself missing the keys all the time, but it's probably all in what you're used to.
