More "Memories" Than I Can Remember?
« on: November 06, 2024, 09:26:24 AM »
Just got a "Notification" that I have a new collection/album of "Pets" on my iPhone. Uhmmmn... looks just like a previous album. Why am I getting another Notification? Have my cats grown an opposable thumb so they can access my iPhone camera?!

The first time I saw this "Pets" album, it was sort of amusing, semi-cute. Since then, I have started wondering more about these "Memories". Here is a link to an Apple page that describes what this "feature" is and controls you have in your Mac. Here is a page with much of the same info for iOS devices.

Now, where was I?! Oh yeah, how can I "forget" some of these "memories"! :wallbash:

1. You won't get any of these "reminders to remember" unless you have enabled them in the Notifications Settings (in whichever device).
2. Select the "Notifications" item in Settings.
3. Go to the "Photos" item in the list of things that can notify you.
4. Now you can turn OFF all Notifications (from Photos) OR select how/where you get notified (in iOS:Banner, Lock Screen, Notification Center, Mac: None, Banners, Alerts).
Can you remember when using a Mac was a two-step process?

Just remember, stopping Notifications does NOT mean stopping these "memories" from being created without your input/control. Apple knows you need these memories, you just forgot to create them.  :whistling:

At least there is a way to delete these albums, see the linked Apple page(s) above.

When I decided to see these "memories" albums, I discovered I had ten duplicate albums on my Mac. On my iPhone there were at least 8 duplicates of "Pets" and another album had four duplicates. I'm pretty sure these duplicates are based on some time/date algorithm Apple uses to create/duplicate them. Deleting one of these "memories" albums does not delete the actual images. In other words, deleting all the duplicates won't gain any usable memory in your device.

Enjoy your memories ("whether you want to or not")! :coolio:
