Through SBC here in the Bay area, I have both DSL and Web hosting which supports my domain name. I am moving to the Beaverton, OR area and will have Verizon as my phone service provider. My plan is to keep SBC web hosting yet cancel my DSL account here in Dublin. Then, if Verizon says I can get DSL through them (its iffy - I may be too far from central telephone station), I wil do so and still maintain my web host as SBC. Does that make sense? It is also possible to switch my web host to Veriuzon as they support the protocol.
If I acnnot get DSL from verizon, I will have two choices: 1) connect via cable (Comcast) which is available at my new location. Comcast does not support web hosting. or 2) Use a satellite service for DSL. I have DirecTV already at the new home. I would just have to put up a new type of "dish". Since I have DirecTV here in Dublin, they will install in bevaerton and reconnect me for $25!!!.
Does anyone have an opinion as to the preferable alternative if I cannot use Verizon as my ISP?
(By the way, my problem with SBC failing to connect my outgoing mail to some of my receipients has not been resolved. They have been trying to solve it for 4 weeks now. They say it is a problem with the reverse DNS failing in my case. In fact, they are now discounting part of my monthly web hosting fee. I solved the problem by sending via my DSL server rather than my mail smtp server!!!)
Thanks for any help you can give,
MamaMoose
