Sherlock - Movies

Wassup wit dat!?!  I just used this function this weekend and now this.

Very handy function to have around when planning a movie outing, you not only find out where and what time the show is on, but you can see the trailer for the movie to.  Something that a newspaper just can not offer.

WOW.gif  I will be forced to upgrade just to use built in functions of the operating system?  wallbash.gif

And that's especially bad, since 10.3 won't be out for a while yet.  I used it a lot, too.  Not any more, I guess.

Wow! I didn't know about this. I love that feature. I use it a lot--it was one of the more pleasant surprises when I moved to Jaguar. I really have no intention of moving anytime soon to a new OS. Heck, I'm still using OSX.2.4.  Boy, I'm not a happy camper about this one.  upset.gif

A couple of IMacs, an iPad, a bunch of iPhones...two of which don’t live here, but I still pay for. Oh yeah, wife, daughters, and yes—a grandson!

Got this info from a helper on Apple discussions.  Worked!  Thank goodness.

quit Sherlock (actually had to force quit it). Went to Local (username)->Library->Preferences-> and deleted the com.apple.Sherlock.plist file relaunched Sherlock and all is well.

You will probably have to enter you personal info. after doing this and any custom channels may need attention as well Make sure you have everything you need backed up

I figured it had to be something NOT related to upgrading.

When I read your post, I tried Sherlock and it works just fine.

Glad you found a fix, Al!

From MacFixIt Late Breakers:
QUOTE
Sherlock temporarily "requires Mac OS X 10.3"

Sherlock, the Internet searching and data retrieval tool in Mac OS X 10.2.x, temporarily displayed a message indicating that users need to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.3 or later in order to use some channels.

MacFixIt reader Cory Cooper writes "I went to use the Movies Channel in Sherlock 3 today, and I get an error message as follows: "You need to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.3 or later to use this version of the Movies Channel." I deleted the appropriate plist files and I still get the error message."

FJ Smith adds "This is disturbing. Actually it makes me mad. This morning I launched Sherlock on my TiPB running OS 10.2.3 and clicked on the "movies" channel and received the following message: "You need to upgrade to Mac OS X10.3 or later to use this version of the Movies Channel" I bought this feature in Jaguar. All of the other channels in Sherlock are working properly (so far)."

The problem - which also affected the phone book channel - appears to be resolved now, and the channels should be fully usable in Mac OS X 10.2.x.

I wonder if someone at Apple "slipped". The Sherlock problem seems to have mysteriously been fixed.
