Help With Netscape 7.0

A little background...  I use N. 7.0 on 9.2.2 and X on my G4, depending on what OS I need to be working in.  It's set up to 'reference' the same Profile in the Documents folder on 9.2.2 .  The Communicator portion is working just fine because they're both 'pointing' to the same place in "Mail & Newsgroup Account settings".  So far, so good...

The problem is that each OS uses a different Address Book and a different Browser/Navigator page although the Bookmarks are now the same--had to do some finagling to get those 'right'.  I know what the files are for the address book and assume[?] that one of the OS's uses the one in the predirected, aforementioned Profile.  The same with the Browser window but the other OS is picking them up from somewhere else... but why?

How, in heaven's name, do I find out from where those two 'modules' are being accessed???    I've spent 3 days trying to get this all straightened out and still don't 'have it right' obviously!          

   a lot to anyone who's got this 'down' and can help me determine where they might be located.  PS:  There is only one profile in the Mozilla folder in the Docs folder, etc., on 9.2.2.  If more infomation is needed, please ask.

In OS X NN 7 looks for this info in it's Mozilla folder in one of two places.  I'm not sure which one since I don't use NN 7 anymore, so here are both locations.

users/your home/library/applications support/the folder

users/your home/library/preferences/the folder

Since you are using the same NN version in both OS 9 & 10, the best solution for your needs would be to create an alises of the Mozilla FOLDER (remember to delete the word alises in its name) for the OS you use most and put it in the proper place in the other OS.  This way no matter which you use they will always be the same.

 ljocampo, I wish it were that simple.  Actually, there are two versions of Netscape; i.e., 7.0 in 9.2.2 and 7.0.1 in X.  I looked for the folders you mentioned... in 'Application Support', there's no Mozilla folder--nor is there one in the Preferences folder.  However, there is one in the user Library folder.  In that folder is an empty Profiles Folder.  Would you suggest that I put an alias to the profile folder, used in 9.2.2, in that folder?  That would be easy enough to do if you think it'll be in the right place.  The strange thing is that it has to be picking up some of what's used in X from somewhere and it's not the same stuff [browser and address book] that comes up in 9.2.2 even tho' the mail boxes and bookmarks are.--totally weird.

If anyone knows what the file name is for the Netscape Browser page or its preferences in the Profiles folder, I'd love to know.  I can't get sites to 'stick' on the personal tool bar of the browser page in 9.2.2's 7.0.  It was working before but the items checked in the program's Preferences don't seem to make a difference.  It still puts them all up there even tho' most have been deselected plus I can't add to them.       Maybe it's time for a program reinstall--that might correct a few of the problems I've been having.         Any suggestions would be gratefully received!!!!!

suggestion: dump Netscape!!  These are the reason I dumped that program long ago.  I have never regreted too.

You can put that alias in there, it can't anything.  You can also look for you folder in the root library ( hard disk/library/ support or pref )

I think my Netscape 7 profile folder is in the Mozilla folder in: users>username>Documents>Mozilla>Profiles>profilename

I am always willing to learn.
I am investing a moment, typing a reply, on the remote chance that someone/anyone can give me an explanation why Netscape is worth using. Perhaps there are circumstances/configurations that I have not considered.

In my estimation it is one of the worst possible choices for a Web Browser under Os  9  or  O S  X

Flash1296, yes there are other choices and if you find others that do as well that's great.
In fact I use IE for most of my surfing in 9.1 but there are times when IE has had problems on certain sites. I fire up Netscape 7 and often it deals with that same site without trouble. It can also be faster to load pages than IE and the tabbed windows are definitely better. It also crashes less than IE.

Why then do I still use IE?
A few reasons.

I like the folder history that IE provides and the ease of bookmark/favorite manipulation as well as the toolbar setup. Plus the fact that the keyboard command for opening in new tab on Netscape won't work on my programmable mouse nor does the scroll wheel on many sites.  I also can't just highlight and drag/drop text to create a text file on the desktop.
Nitpicky, yes.

Hard to shake habits and conveniences.  

But one more thing that may be important to encourage other browsers like Netscape in the future. I believe it is only a matter of time before IE for Mac is increasingly unusable as sites begin to program for things that the now lame duck IE won't be able to recognize. It will be MS's way of telling Apple that they are miffed for creating Safari. It will be paramount that Apple's Safari (and other browers) are up to all the web tricks that will be used to keep Mac users as second class netizens.
