Hi,
I am located in Greece and I am just about fed up with my dial-up internet connection, so I decided to upgrade to ISDN since aDSL is still not available over here.
The thing is I would like to keep using my Airport so I can surf the web using my laptop on the sofa. Call me spoiled but this is a luxury I just have to have:)
One option is Hermstedt's Airshuttle which is a hack to the Airport base station; it involves changing the analog modem in the Airport with an ISDN modem. Don't want to do that.
Another option (as I found out in the local Applestore) is to use an ISDN Router, which will go between the ISDN provider box and the Airport, connected with RJ45 (Ethernet type) cables. The one they use over here is Dray Tech's Vigor 2000 which retails for EUR 200.
Searching on ebay for "ISDN routers" I found some selling for much lower than this. They are made by Farallon, Cisco, Lucent, Nortel, ZYxel, Ascend, Toshiba and possibly others.
I am not at all familiar with this setup, so the question really is what do I need to have ISDN while maintaining my Airport? Is an ISDN router necessary and if so, do I really have to pay about $200 for the particular one Apple promotes here in Greece or would I be OK with a used one from ebay for much less? Which brand and/or model should I consider?
I am really looking forward to your help on this one:)
Thanks in advance,
ACG
