Safari 1.0 v85 & lost bookmarks
« on: September 17, 2003, 07:37:23 PM »
Okay, Monday Sneakers installed my new HD, and I installed Jag. Yesterday I spent considerable time installing this, that and the other thing -- AND a great deal of time setting up my bookmarks. I couldn't figure out how to import my bookmarks, from Opera - besides they were all cluttery, so I made an email with the ones I really wanted, and from there I added them to Safari.

Now they are GONE!!!!!!!!!!   mad.gif  wallbash.gif

Is this a common problem? Why are they gone? Where did they go? How do I make them stick around? And why the heck can't I find a decent pop corn popper?  wink.gif

Help on the bookmarks would be most appreciated. smile.gif

Kimmer:

I can't speak to what happened to your opera bookmarks.  But I can tell you this will never happen to a dot Mac'er, like myself.  I sync my safari bookmarks, address book, and iCalendars at dot mac.  I can use all of them from any computer, computer platform, anywhere in the world, and keep an off site backup too boot.  If your really interested in preserving this data check out Apple's dot Mac.    Thinking.gif

My Opera bookmarks are right where they were. What I've lost all the bookmarks that I customized in Safari. Maybe this is a bug - the ability to NOT retain the bookmarks, or did I have to do something special to make them stick around?

You must have done something wrong in importing.
How did you add them to Safari?

You can use Safari Bookmark Exporter to make it easy to convert Opera Bookmarks to Safari.

Let me start fresh --- I did NOT import my bookmarks. I did however, take links that I sent myself in an email and did the "drag'n'drop" thing. I took the time to set up folders, put the bookmarks where they belonged, adjusted the order of the bookmarks. I also set up the bookmarks bar and bookmarks menu just the way I wanted.

That was on Tuesday. On Wednesday when I launched Safari, all my custom bookmarks were gone and they were back to the way they were when I installed Safari.

I've now recustomized them and I'm hoping they stick around this time. If not, I'm going to be majorly upset.  mad.gif

I've also run into issue of being logged out of boards whenever I use the link in the topic notification emails.  wacko.gif

Other wise, Safari works better than IE ever did. But the disappearing bookmarks are something I find very irritating.
