Anyone else having problems with IE favorites?
« on: September 18, 2003, 09:04:44 PM »
All of a sudden tonight, if I click on any favorite in IE, nothing happengs, but only if I do it under "organize favorites". If I leave the original list which appears when you click on "favorites", any of them will come up.  This has never happened before.  Any ideas????? sad.gif

Hello dakota,

I don't know if this may apply to you, my ISP is Cox Communications and they were down all day. When they finally did come back up my IE was not connecting to my Favorites.

When I checked with Cox, they said that East Coast customers may experience email or internet outages due to Hurricane Isabel.

I did a Restart on my Mac and unplugged and repluged my modem and that seemed to get my service back to normal. I am still having itermittent problems connecting (probably because of the wind).

I am using WebTV right now due to a connection outage on Cox Cable.'

I finally repaired permissions but lost most of my bookmarks.  I tried to import them from Netscape but what happened was that I seemed to be getting an older set of bookmarks.   Instead of my current Ebay acutions, I have auctions from July. When I check the bookmarks on Netscape, the ones I imported to IE aren't even there!  I had just copied them over to Netscape from IE earlier tonight and the ones I sent over to Netscape are there in Netscape, but not on IE when I try to import them back again.   I don't even know where these arlier bookmarks are coming from when I can't even find them on Netscape.  Also, am I supposed to have a Mozilla folder in both Documents and Library????? dry.gif

Hi dakota,

You have not mentioned what version you were running of either IE or Netscape and what OS you were trying to run it on. It would be very helpful to the TS members to have these specifics.

I have found that members may often skim the topics on the Board and may not read every thread for one member. Including as much of the information from above may help you to get a reply for each topic that you post.

Have you checked to be sure that any additional importings of NS Bookmarks-->IE Favorites have not simply put all of the "new" ones in a single folder buried somewhere in your IE roster?

Each time I've tried to importing to IE that has happened, necessitating cleaning-up the list to its desired state, by-hand . . . i.e getting rid of duplicates and making new folders and separators to have them organized as intended. Nothing "automatic".

Yes, I checked, and they are not there.  If I go to Netscape, I have one set of bookmarks, and if I import those to IE, they are somewhat older - I do not know where they could be coming from since they differ to such a degree.

Hey Dakota, I ran into this problem on the 9.2.2 side of my computer, and I tried all the usual "fixes", but wound up having to just reinstall the darn thing.  Don't have a clue as to what caused it. .  .No new installations, no other apparent problems; it just quit working, and wouldn't even go to my home page.  Ah well. . . verysad.gif

That should make me feel better, right???? The worst thing is that even though I had already imported the favorites into the Netscape bookmark file, I can't get them back into IE.  What I am getting appears to be a different set of bookmarks from an earlier time.  If I place the bookmarks file on the desktop and open it, all the correct bookmarks are there - but if I import them into IE, they are not the same ones!  Could any of this have anything to do with the sudden barrage of "Microsoft" emails which are flooding my mailbox?  I'm getting 20-30 every time I check my mail - alerts, patches, returned mail messages, most with attachments.  Even though I have already applied about 20 "filters" they keep coming.  Something seems to be very wrong here. mad.gif

A brief case history:

When I decided  to install and move to Mozilla, on my Pismo/10.2.6 (before NS 7.1 appeared upon the scene) I found to my pleasant surprise that Mozilla 1.4 simply proceeded (somehow) to go and "get" my NS 7.0.2 BookMarks, without invocation, invitation or exorhation! Being an "ancestor" has advantages for "descendants" it would appear.

However, when moving NS BookMarks to other browsers, as you say you have done, NS first requires that you transform the its bookmarks into an exportable file with an .ldif suffix.

Did you do that? I doubt that you will get the file you want if you do not do so, and if you do, everything in the file should move w/o incident. IMO.
