Eudora email links launch Classic & IE
« on: September 21, 2003, 06:10:41 PM »
This WAS an occasional problem, now it's become a regular problem and I have no idea how to fix it. I'm hoping someone here does.

Several emails that I receive apparently have some hidden code in them that overrides my system preferences, and causes Classic & IE to launch when the link is clicked. I can't tell simply by looking or reading. Even clicking the "blah, blah" button in Eudora 5.1 doesn't reveal anything. It's really quite frustrating, not to mention time consuming as I am forced to sit here and wait on all this. Once done, I quit IE, go to the email, copy the link and PASTE it into my browser of choice in OS X.

Since this occurred in 10.1.5, I know it's not a Jag issue. If I use Apple Mail, this does not happen. So I'm left thinking it's a Eudora 5.1 issue. sad.gif  I've considered moving to Apple Mail, but it lacks several features (at least as far as I've found to date) that I rely on in Eudora (personalities, stationary tied to those personalities, filing copies of emails within the proper mail box rather than the "sent mail" box, etc).

Does anyone know what is being done to these emails and what setting I might fix/adjust/correct to stop this? OR - can you tell me how to set up Apple Mail with all the nice things I've got in Eudora.

I know, I don't ask for much. wink.gif

1)  Did you take your Eudora folder out of your system folder from OS9?? That's important.  The "Eudora Application Folder" belongs in "Applications" and the "Eudora folder" belongs in the Documents folder in "Home".

2)  I don't quite understand the problem you are having with links to IE.  Where are you supposed to go when you click on a url in Eudora???

Eudora was installed in OS X, not in OS9. So the folders are all where they should be in OS X.

Eudora is set to open the page in Safari in Jag. Safari is marked as my browser of choice. Clicking on all other links in Eudora opens a page in Safari. Clicking on some of these other links - and I just looked and they are all "secure" pages(online billing pages from one company, changing password verification pages from another company, etc), or in emails sent by a COMPANY (see the latest stuff we have for sale) not from anther user.

Just these few emails defaul to IE in classic. It's frustrating and I can't find a setting in Eudora 5.1 to fix it.

Do you still have another copy, or another version of Eudora on your HD, and also possibly in the OS9 system folder?

I doubt this has anything to do with the Eodora email program.  The URL link must need an secure encryption browser (128bit) and apparently the classic version of your IE is the only 128 bit browser that your system can find.

Dakota, the only copy of Eudora is the one on my 10 partition. There is nothing that points to Eudora on my 9 partition.

ljocampo - I would disagree with you, only because this does not occur when I move the same emails into Apple's Mail program. The classic version of IE that is installed on my computer is the one that arrived when I installed OS 9. It's not even the updated, current version.

It's all very strange.
