Eudora Auto Registration Reminder
« on: September 28, 2003, 03:50:47 PM »
I have Eudora 4.3 installed on three different Macs.  Actually, it is really used on two of the Macs.  After reinstalling Eudora on the iMac I now get periodic reminders to register the app.  This appears to be an online registration form vs. entering a serial number within the app itself.

Since the reminder window stalls the launch process, I would like to banish the reminder windows.

I have Eudora (paid version) registered through another Mac, and have run it on two Macs for a couple of years.  I presume that this is a recent attempt by Eudora to snag unregistered pirated software.

Now, I absolutely will not use pirated software, but the idea of paying for separate installs on personal computers in a home that use the software on a decidedly part-time basis doesn't sit well with me.  I compare such use to copying a purchased CD for personal use.

So my question is this:  can I register Eudora via the iMac without repercussions or do I have to put up with the reminder windows?  We access e-mail via the iMac less than once a week so it isn't much of a hardship.

I use the nonpay version 5.2 which doesn't give me any reminders, just occassionally pops up a window when I return to it if something is covering the silly little ad window. I laugh at how ridiculous this is since I don't see the popup unless I'm in Eudora itself and I totally ignore the ad .

Anyway, I would imagine somewhere on the other two systems where Eurdora is used there is a pref or possible invisible file that has your registration info. Perhaps you should just copy over the application and all related files and folders instead of going through the normal install process. There is an installation log that Eudora presents in the system folder telling you where everything is. Basically the Eudora folder in the SF, the application itself and Mishawaka font is what it covers. I'll bet the registration info is somewhere in there.

Or try the HELP menu in Eudora where Payment and Registration info is located. You may be able to enter the regis no there and the reminders might stop?

Aha, I think this will do it.

Go into Help and select Lite (free) version, then go online and register (make up a name or whatever). That will stop the window. Then go back to paid mode and enter your registration number.

I found the info HERE.

Boy, did I get suckered by Qualcom. After finally getting Mrs. Mooses machine to connect to internet, her Eudora would not open without a message saying she had an olde version (4.2!) and had to buy a registartion for 5.1 or go to unpaid mode. I could not undersatnd that since she has a pid mode 5.1 on her Mac! After an hour or two of frustration, I finally entered the Eudora page and paid fro a new registration number (the wife was getting prettyt antsy since she hasn't been able to access her email for 5 weeks).

Now after readin krissel's note, I got really angry just sent a letter to the Oregon Attorny general and to Qualcom stating I was a victim of consumer fraud. Note, I have a separate version (paid) of Eudora on my dual 1 GHz G4.

Thanks, Krissel for your explanation. Unfortunately I read it after I paid for an unecessary registration. I just feel that Qualcom pulled a fast one .
