ATI Video Player all Business
« on: September 08, 2003, 07:37:14 AM »
Out of nowhere, the ATIVP (v. 1.7 or so - I think) tells me it can't find the ATI Video Digitizer extension. It's there (v. 4.2.8 - I'm sure) and even a restart did not help ATIVP find VD. Now, normally you wouldn't want VD, but in this case, it's essential.

I can't find a backup ATI VD extension anywhere on my removables. The thought is that I should replace the one I have with a "fresh" copy. (I figure being fresh is a good way to get.... nevermind.) I did reinstall the ATIVP (P not D) thinking it might overwrite the VD extension, but no luck.

I'm pretty sure an OS 9 install places a bunch of ATI extensions where they belong, but the stand alone VD extension is not on my OS 9 CD. Then I couldn't find my copy of Tome Viewer on any of my archives (zip disks). I suppose I'll have to search for that on the net and download it again.

Other suggestions? Thanks.

Oh, I do have backups on zip disks, one month old and two months old. Funny how writing this made me think of that. But last time I tried to use RE to retrieve something, it was a pain. I just don't get the steps to accomplish that.

Kelly, I have the ATI Xclaim VR card. (I'm not sure if the X is for X-rated. Maybe that has something to do with the VD extension.) OS 9.2 since about a year ago.

Gary, I plan to take you up on that, eventually. Here at home, using NS7, I cannot see an e-mail icon or figure out how to send a PM. I will check at work, where I have MS Ex and see if I can reach you. I am working at home this week, so it may be a few days. I challenged Sir Issac Newton's theories and lost. Ended up with a bad wheel. (minus the w)

Gregg,

I put a copy of the ATI Video Digitizer ver. 4.3.7 extension on my iDisk.
 You can get it here.

I've concluded that the VD etension is not the problem. Phew! That's a relief! sweatingbullets.gif
But I downloaded it anyway. Thanks bil.

I had a chance to restore the 4.2.8 version from my backups, and it made no difference, whether trying the newly installed ATI VP or the one I had been using. I also had an ATI Driver Update on a disk, and tried that next, still no change. Not sure if I needed the ATI DU or not, but those letters... at IUD (sounds like VD prevention gone bad) or scrambled; at DUI (could be the cause of lack of coordination) can mess wit ya.

Guess I'm gonna write to ATI and see if they can tell me why I get the error message. (XVP cannot locate ATI VD)

kelly, oh yeah. Same machine - G3 desktop. Just refused to play when I sat down to run it the other day. Usually into it 2 or three times a month at least. No changes to my System Folder in 6 months or more.

I'm trying to work with ATI Support now. (What a chore!) Maybe someone here can tell me how to test to see if the graphics card itself is bad or not. The reason for my suspicion is that I found a copy of the Apple Video Player, and it won't work either. It's error message was something about not finding a graphics card!

Well, ATI "support" has given up on me. They did exchange a few e-mails, but finally said these are the only things we know to try. But none of them worked.

Gregg. FWIW. I don't think that ever worked for me after 8.6 smile.gif

I just couldn't get it to work the same with any OS 9.x

I'm surprised you did. smile.gif
