OS 8.1 can't get any internet

Hello Is there anyone that can help with an iMac I have, I think it's the first model, OS 8.1 and with no reset button on the side.

Well the story goes... It connects to the interent but explorer won't find anything, I use a dial up connection which says everything is okay, but explorer is dead. However is has no problems with network connection and then the internet works fine.

I have the settings on TCP/IP PPP - Via PPP
And on the Modem setting of course.

I really need to this work as a dial up connection.

Hey warrenokane, welcome to TS!
From a distance I would first look into the “internet” control panel in “control panels” folder in the “system folder” to see if it was set up. there you’ll see different preferences in email and web access. If you in fact can get on line then it would seem that the Explorer preferences are not set up.

Also, in the tcp/ip control panel there is a question mark icon, it will bring you to the setup segment of internet and browser configurations.

In the older OSs there is a preference file in the system folder called Mac TCP DNR which helps the browsers "resolve" the IP numbers of websites. It can become corrupted.

Throw this file in the trash and restart. A new one will be created when the Mac starts up. You can then empty the trash.
