Adobe PS Elements 2.0 . . . experience? opinions?
« on: October 01, 2003, 11:42:49 PM »
I get a lot of satisfying use from Adobe PhotoShop Elements 1.0.

Are there any informed opinions out there in TS Land as to whether v. 2.0 is

• worth the fairly mode$t inve$tment
• significantly better than its predecessor (please include your definition of "better")

I run Jag on a Pismo, with PSE running smoothly in Classic

And, thank you very much.

RHP,

I didn't have version 1 of Photoshop Elements, but I can say that version 2 works very well with OS9X and OSX.2.6.

Never used PSE 1 - I had whatever it was they offered prior to that and I hated it. I'm not a graphics person - that's Sneakers forte - but I like all the things I can do in PSE 2, plus the tutorials keep me from pestering Sneaker on a reg. basis. wink.gif tongue.gif

Dick, I've only owned 2.0 - and must admit I haven't gotten 'round to using it much - I have PS 7, and Elements was purchased at a very good price for the kids to use with their digital cams. It does have a few nifty things that PS 7 doesn't have though - panorama stitching, for instance.

However, the fact that it runs natively in OS X, is a big plus for me - I hate running things in Classic! Classic is miles better under Jag than it was previously, but I still avoid it at all costs because of the lurking suspicion that it slows everything down...I don't do ANYTHING in Classic now.

Anyway - there is a review at Macworld that you might find helpful, since none of us so far have been able to give you an answer:

Other than that I can only suggest comparing the feature list at Adobe with what you have now.

I agree with the others...PSE 2.0 is nice. I have it. I don't like nor do I even have classic.

You can find it cheaper than the marked price..

Amazon has it for $79

Buy.com has it for $53 after rebate

Outpost has it for $69 after rebate

and I'm sure you might be able to find it somewhat cheaper if you look.

Adobe offers "tryouts" of most of their products including PS Elements 2.0. You can get it here. smile.gif

I fund that with PSE2, it will turn a 124K photo into several MB as soon as it is used, so watch your storage space.

I love PSE 2.0- it was a big upgrade when I got it (literally, I upgraded from Photoshop 2.5.1 LE)

I think it does a gret job, but when I'm dealling with a number of layer (over 15) it seems to glitch sometimes when I try to copy small areas.

Peace-
Peter

I fund that with PSE2, it will turn a 124K photo into several MB as soon as it is used, so watch your storage space.

It will only inflate the size of a file if either

- You started with a compressed file like a JPEG, then saved it uncompressed or compressed differently; or

- You added layers or other image data; or

- You saved the file with embedded previews, ICC color profiles, or other non-image data.

Just to tie this thread up with a bright bow . . . smile.gif

I've been using APE 2.02 happily for about a week now. For me it was a very nice upgrade, pleasant to be using it in OSX, but gratifying to have some new "utilities" (my word), grouped in new ways, for adjusting/repairing/fixing/embellishing my digital photos.

The advice, above, is all much appreciated.
