Well, I found a way. (It was there all the time!)
But first I must state that my original post was a bit misleading. Misleading in the fact that it did not mention that the PDF document in question was a document "PDF Viewed" on my IE 5.1.7 browser. "PDF viewed" meant that I could not load the PDF on disc, as the IE File Menu "Save as" was grayed out. That sort of sent me on a wild goose chase. I copied the screen and tried OCR which somewhat worked but was tedious as I had to make several screen copies of the PDF pages.
I tried Netscape 7.0. NS did allow me to copy the PDF on my disc via its File Menu "Save page as". Once there I copied the PDF and pasted it in MSWord. And voila that I was able to edit the text with larger characters before printing. Of course I lost the graphics content which for this document was not important to me.
I since fixed IE by telling its File Helper Portable Document Format to open the document with the Application instead of the PDF Viewer Plugin. This causes the IE Download manager to open and load the PDF document in the Acrobat Reader application, allowing me to copy and paste in MSWord as with Netscape.
While running like a chicken with its head cut off, I replaced my free Acrobat Reader 5.0 with a full version. I don't know if I would have been able to do the same with the free Acrobat Reader as I don't recall trying the copy/paste method. Probably the free version would have worked as well.
In my chase for a solution, I googled for PDF/MSWord converters and did not find any for OS 9. I found a couple for OS X, and tens of them for Windows. It would be nice to find a solution that would keep the graphics while allowing one to increase the character size.
Thanks all for your suggestions.
