5.44 gigabits a second (Gbps) WOW.gif

At this speed, this is equivalent to transferring a full-length DVD film in seven seconds (using current technology).

For comparisons:

A DVD film of 90 minutes presently takes about 15 minutes to download from the Internet.

5.44 Gbps is more than 20,000 times faster than a typical home broadband connection, and is also equivalent to transferring a 60-minute compact disc within one second -- an operation that takes around eight minutes on standard broadband.

Cost and availability not given. But, "10 gigabits per second will be commonplace in the relatively near future." clap.gif

Exciting news I see... but when will we all get the speed rush. Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

Makes me wonder now just how fast viruses and things of such distructon will be sent at lightening speed and shut down business and such.

Sounds nice, but scary too....
