IE on Classic.
« on: October 30, 2003, 12:10:28 PM »
I remember quite awhile back, when folks actually still used Classic that there was an issue I ran into with IE 5 and the way it was working with the 'net....especially as compared to other browsers in downloads speed, hitting sites, etc.

Whatever it was, M$ got it worked out on IE 5.1. Downloaded it on 9.1 the other night and installed it for kicks to see if it was an improvement and found it to be very pleasantly so.

I am able to hit very comparable download speeds and hit sites that I want to hit that require that type of browser and be OK.

Tried iCab. LOVED the browser, especially the tabs, but it expired and don't have the money to buy the pro version, or I would.

Maybe I'll just be the loner who programs stuff for people like me still running Classic.....since Apple's not going to.

Take care, all.

Great to hear from you, big guy.  wink.gif

What are you running on the G3?

I was kinda bummed about the iCab deal, because I loved the tabbed browsing, but iCab wouldn't work on login sites like my USBank site to check my banking and stuff like that, so that was a major push for me to switch back to IE 5.1.....

Works like a charm, though, I must admit. Just wish IE would do tabbed browsing.

Know of any add-ons for IE that would do that?

Take care.

I'm running OS9.1 on the Beige beauty.

My son likes IE but I use Netscape 7.0 1 not 7.0 2 with OS 9.1 because of the tabbed windows and pop-up blocking. I don't get any pop-ups and can't do without
tabbed browsing now that i'm used to it. I use Netscape 7.0 2 with OS X.2.8 because I don't cotton to Safari and the the way it looks and acts.

Here's a nice streamlined version of Netscape 7.0 1 from SillyDog.

That's cool. I'll have to check out that trimmed-down version. If it wasn't so bloated, I may be able to run it OK on the 6500.

Take care and thanks for the link.

Still using IE 5.1.6. on OS 9.1 (iMac DV-SE), but am wondering if it is getting time to shell out the 100 GBP for Panther... on the other hand this set-up still does all I need it to. Maybe Santa.....

Been having IE problems for a while with pages not loading, dropped connections, pages only loading when I watched the beachball for a while and then hit Apple.point ( huh.gif !!). I'd been blaming my ISP's problems with viruses until something at the back of my mind rang a bell. I've now disabled Windows Media Player extension - again - and (touch wood) it's running fine now.
