403 errors with Apache.
« on: November 06, 2003, 10:02:00 AM »
and a few other sites and I still can't find anything that looks out of whack that would prohibit me from being able to access "public" files (in the /Library/WebServer/Documents folder).

The folder above has been chmodded 755, so I don't think it's a permissions issue.

Found a thread on another board that spoke of a problem with the <Directory> directive, but haven't changed anything there yet.

Was hoping someone else here could help out.....

Thanks all.

Take care.

That's so funny. Guess we Googled for the same article.

That devshed article was where I got the tip for adding the +Indexes to the Directory directive. smile.gif

Thanks for the links.

Take care.

Oh man! You know what? I'm such a bonehead. I'll bet I forgot to chown the files when I copied them onto that Jag box.  DUH.

I'll look tomorrow morning and tell you if that was it.

Thanks again for the reply.

Hi Chris,

If you haven't fixed it yet, tell us what version of Apache you are running.

It may be that you have to edit the main config file to "allow override all". That main config file can keep users from setting their own directives which in an open situation can lead to insecurities.

Hope it fixed for ya though..smile.gif

see ya

Di -

I chmodded 755, chowned both to root and to www.

No dice. At least from the 9.2 box on my desk. Then I went to a Win98 box and got to it fine. MAN, did that hurt. wink.gif

I can get to the box actually now (think my 9.2 box wacked out temporarily), but I can't seem to get one other app working (MacASP).

Hoping to get that running with Apache so we can keep our site the same as it is now. smile.gif

Thanks so much for the tips. It was my bonehead. wink.gif

Take care.
