Just got back home and catching the news.

They're saying 3 inches of rain an hour in your area!
Can barely see the tops of some cars from the pics on the TV.

Got your raincoat handy Buddy? smile.gif

Bill, that was an amazing storm, but as you probably know, it was isolated to just a small area.

In the paper today it showed a neighborhood in Watts near South Central L.A. that had a foot of hail.  The cars there were frozen in place and people couldn't even open the doors.  The traffic reporters in their helicopters said it looked like a magical Christmas village.

Then the rain you mentioned was some of the worst ever seen in L.A.  More than 5 inches fell in a few places in that 24-hour period.  As many as 50 cars were abandoned in the floodwaters.  One lady said she was driving home from work and a school bus came floating by.  Somehow she was able to get home okay.

As you can imagine, lots of people in those areas were flooded out of their homes and had to go to evacuation centers, where they had plenty of company from victims of the fires from 2 weeks ago.

Just another one of Southern California's four seasons:  fire, flood, earthquake, riot.

I was hoping the storm would let me skip watering my yard this week, but not a drop fell in my area.  I had to water it this morning.  Then again, I'm thankful not to have been flooded out.

Russ, I'm in Riverside.

TV wise, I get my news from your direction and from down south.
AND of course from Bernie. Guess he was out cruising [in his rig] when all hades broke lose. <gr>

Yeah I saw 'horror' stories from both sources but when you're not there, yeah really, really have to laugh at those news yoyos. smile.gif

Granted they covered the fires very well .... BUT .... the real stories are after.
OH BUT THAT ISN'T -brush your teeth type news-!

Sorry Russ.
To many coals in too many fires right now to not find something to laugh at.

I have to laugh at this LA "snow" Jive.

Anyone can write a funny or draw a picture ... pending on who's on the receiving end whether it's funny or not.

My flaw is when you walk up to a young family overlooking what is left of their first bought [if you can recall, you cut corners to get there] home. Slab only.
No words, jokes, facial expressions can lighten their grief.

They say twenty 'humans' died in these fires and "X amount" of animals.
Try doing that voluntary lost-in-found duty day after day.
Most I took pictures and brought back ... but some wanted to see ....
~~~ X rated ~~~ Led the owners/parents back to a elderly bitch bullmaster maybe fifty feet from their property. Burnt ... but still alive.
Husband freaked, wife looked at me .... I put her down.
Don't get me wrong.
I've seen and done worse.
Sometime I'll post the real story ((how)) the grand canyon was formed.
Hint: mother-in-law after a chile cook off.
Sorry. I still try to laugh but not the way I want to.
Funny Bill Yes! At the time of the downpour I was headed west through Orange County coming  from Sand Diego. While cruising through Costa Mesa on the 405 frwy. I saw the best natural Fireworks display ever. Lightning Galore.  1/2 hour later nearing LAX  It was  Raining really hard.  South LA is about 15 Miles South east of my home.  Here's a,
The rain to me was beautiful....I have loved rain from childhood, and how I ended up in a semi-desert area I will never know. We live in a more elevated area than Hemet proper, so all our water runs down hill. There was about an inch of water between my driveway and my neighbors home, but it drained quickly. No watering necessary here for a while.  biggrin.gif  One huge thunder boomer closed down my computer..I had it in sleep mode, and we so  seldom get a storm like this one, I didn't think to unplug as my East Coast friends do. But it started right up later on. YAY for Macintosh !!!!!
June.
I just came back from San Bernardino. It's lightly raining up there. Not much at all but a whole of clouds.
KNX radio was saying we've a 30% chance of rain tonight and in the morning.
Get back down here and those clouds followed me. smile.gif
No H20 yet but no blue sky either. biggrin.gif
That night lightning hit (I guess) about a quarter mile away.
When the first boom went off ... my dog and cat were running over each other looking for a place to hide. smile.gif
I shut the power off asap. <gr>
Hi Bern!
Got your email. Never did reply back did I.?.
Bill...no rain here today, just cool and cloudy. Riverside county will no long share the 909 phone prefix with San Bernardino starting July.....14......I think the day is. how come they get to keep 909 and we have to switch to 951 ?? Somebody playing favorites ?? My son and DIL are winging their way to Fla. at the moment, then tomorrow they emark on a cruise in the Caribbean. I sure hope they have good weather....they deserve a beautiful time. Gary, our son,  is maintenance supervisor for the Fullerton school system..a headache type  of job, so the cruise is a welcome escape.
June, I too love the rain.  And like you in Hemet, we just don't get enough of it in L.A. to suit me.  I think I would prefer to live someplace like Seattle.
We got a little here last night and today here in the San Fernando Valley and I believe there's a small chance of more tomorrow and into Monday.
What I hate is when you hear a forecast of rain a couple of days ahead, and then the day before it gets here, they say the weather pattern has changed and we're not getting it after all.   mad.gif  That tends to happen a lot here in Southern California.
Hope your people have a good cruise.   smile.gif
