This is what happened on Monday near my house... Nothing like the south cali fires, but it did burn down about 70% of one side of the crater behind my house.

How close is it to your home? As I remember in one of your pictures it was pretty close.

BTW....I didn't get to see the whole video. It locked up Netscape about 3/4 the way through.

Al, have you seen much rain yet? I was talking to a friend who just returned from Oahu and she said it rained a little. That would have been last week.

No cats here, I still have my tongue Bill.  Just a common cold and some much needed rest today.    Sorry, I tried to make the file as small as I could cause I knew you were on dial up.  When are you going to get some sort of broadband in your area?  BTW, how's the fires in your area?  Last I heard it was supposed have been contained earier this week.  But contained doesn't mean it is necessarily over yet.

Hi Gary, yes, it's close, less than a half mile from my home.  The smoke was overwhelming here and went all the way to Waikiki where the haze could be seen throughout the streets.  Our clothes, house, cars, everything smelled like a BBQ for two days.

Hi Bruce, not much rain, would have helped a lot.  Most of the forest up there on the crater is made up of two types of very hard woods.  One we call Keawe and the other is Hale Koa.  Once they char they can retain the heat and embers like a charcoal very well.  Last night I still could see a few embers glowing in the night.

Oops, naughty me, this all actually happened Sunday.  Wife reminded me that we saw this coming home from church.  This cold is clouding my memory.

There was a mud slide up in the mountains from the last 'big' rain that clobbered a lot of already burnt trees.
So the 'word' is that fema is hunting down any or all sources for seedling nation wide asap.
Luckily this one mud slide had no structures in its path.

Now on the flat lands:
Most are now under control.
All week has been the hardest part for the victims in -you name it county-.  
Imagine finally being able to get back to your home/neighborhood and seeing nothing but burnt wood or just plain slab.

I can't imagine, cause it's not happened here for a long while (mass devastation).  But I do feel for each and everyone there, Bill, cause it has happened here before with hurricane Iniki some years ago.

I was wondering if some of the administrators had (or could look up) emails for the members in San Diego.
That county was hit the hardest.
I've noticed some have reported (posted) in but some haven't.
I found an old email of soozz on a zip and tried contacting her but it bounced back twice. Then like a dummy I tossed the email and cleared the zip.
I 'think' she was in the heart of one of the major fires down there.
