I have a situation that has me baffled, and driving me nuts, any thoughts are welcome.
I have a Beige G3 266 DT running 9.1 and have a bad logic board video connection or something. I get strange lines following the mouse when using the built in video. But I've accepted that problem and found a cure.
I have a PCI video card instead. The card works fine but sometimes my G3 thinks there are 2 monitors (in the desktop & monitor control panels) and I loose my mouse pointer on the ghost monitor. I currently have only one monitor attached. I have not used the on-board video fro some time.
Zapping the PRAM does no good, and the battery has been swapped also.
Sometimes I can get rid of the ghost monitor by re-booting one or more times, but it ususally does not work. The only thing that really cures it is to press the cuda switch on the logic board. But that is a pain because I have to reset the clock, etc....
As far as I can tell the problem seems to start after plying a 3-d video game but I'm not positive that is the true cause. Sometimes re-booting seems to cause my G3 to gain a monitor as well.
In the past I have had 2 video cards in the PCI slots for a dual monitor set-up and the control panels would show 3 monitors !
I was wondering if cutting the connector off of the logic board would work ?
I am considering hacking the G3 guts into an ATX case anyway and that is a main issue for the board to fit in the ATX case.
Thanks in advance,
Krow
